Saint-Vincent-de-Paul is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Laval. Its history dates back to 1740 when the parish of the same name was founded in honour of Saint Vincent de Paul. Modern-day Saint-Vincent-de-Paul runs along the Prairies River and is bordered by the neighbourhoods of Auteuil, Duvernay and Saint-François.

Its old penitentiary (a.k.a. the “old pen”) closed in 1989, but remains in the popular imagination and is sometimes used as a filming location. Collège Laval, also in Saint-Vincent-de-Paul, was founded in 1859 and named in honour of François de Montmorency-Laval, the first Roman Catholic Bishop of Quebec. Old Saint-Vincent-de-Paul is known for its picturesque homes and shops.
