Saint-Lambert is located on the south shore of Montreal and was briefly part of Longueuil from 2002 to 2006. The city boasts an elaborate cycling path network – and since 1959 – locks that allow freighters to reach the Great Lakes.

When the Victoria Bridge opened in 1854, it created the only rail link between Montreal and New York – giving Saint-Lambert a major boost that converted the city into a transport hub for merchandise. This role can still be seen in the city’s industrial architecture. Gentrification eventually came to Saint-Lambert. Since the early 20th century, the city’s elite English-speaking community has given way to an elite French-speaking community.
