Mercier is a Montreal neighbourhood in the borough of Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve. It owes its name to former Quebec Premier Honoré Mercier. The eastern portion of Mercier is also known as Tétreauville, which is named after a major local landowner, Pierre Tétreault. Mercier’s many draws include the wooded Thomas-Chapais Park and the Bellerive Promenade Park. You’ll also find a library, a cultural centre and a CLSC. Mercier is conveniently located near Highway 25.

Hochelaga-Maisonneuve (Ho-Ma) is a Montreal neighbourhood in the borough of Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve. In 1883, the village of Hochelaga became a city and was immediately annexed to Montreal. Its Maisonneuve neighbourhood was able to retain its independence a little longer, but eventually merged with the city in 1918. Hochelaga-Maisonneuve has long been the home of blue collar workers employed by the nearby factories. The neighbourhood fell into decline in the 1980s, but has been steadily undergoing gentrification since the early 2000s. Ontario St. East (known as the Promenade Ontario) continues to be the neighbourhood’s main commercial artery.
