Auteuil is one of the 14 municipalities that merged in 1965 to form the city of Laval. The territory of Auteuil predominantly encompasses the former parish of Sainte-Rose-Est. Auteuil was sparsely populated until the early 1950s, mainly attracting visitors looking to spend the day at its beaches running along the Mille-Îles River. From 1953 to 1960, Auteuil had just 2,000 year-round families but 4,000 “summer” families.
In 1961, the parish of Sainte-Rose-Est officially became the municipality of Auteuil – a large part of which remains agricultural land to this day. The rest is mainly residential neighbourhoods, which are served by several bus lines as well as by both primary and secondary schools.
