Rosemont is a neighbourhood in the borough of Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie. It owes its name to Rose Philipps, mother of one Ucal-Henri Dandurand, who bought the land where the Canadian Pacific Railway later built its Angus Shops in the early 1900s. In 1910, Rosemont joined with the city of Montreal. As early as 1905, but especially during the 1920s, Rosemont underwent a significant demographic boom. The 1930s brought the development of the Botanical Garden, which quickly became a neighbourhood jewel. Today, Rosemont is well-known for being both peaceful and full of life. Its most famous citizen is without a doubt former Montreal Mayor Jean Drapeau.

This neighbourhood that’s now part of the borough of Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie owes its name to Claude Jasmin’s 1972 novel, La Petite Patrie. Aside from a few quarries, La Petite-Patrie was initially mostly agricultural. However, when the tram line arrived in 1892, connecting downtown to Sault-aux-Récollets, the population grew, transforming the area into a largely residential sector. Several ethnic communities now call La Petite-Patrie home. Two local must-sees are the Jean-Talon Market and the Plaza Saint-Hubert.
