The City of Westmount is encircled by Montreal and has more than 20,000 inhabitants. While Westmount is still widely considered the enclave of Montreal’s English-speaking elite, this reputation is becoming less and less true. Its French speaking population has grown steadily since the early 2000s.

It was back in the 1900s that Westmount became a wealthy suburban town. Its town hall and library, as well as a number of other public buildings, are the work of architect Robert Findlay, himself a local resident. Westmount Park, meanwhile, was designed by Calvert Vaux and the famous Frederick Law Olmsted. The Hurtubise House, a former farm, is one of the rare vestiges of Westmount’s distant agricultural past.
